The livestock diagnostics application (app) for veterinarians, labcard provides for easy on-farm data collection for samples through the use of a mobile phone. With support from Zoetis, veterinary staff and farmers from the districts of Luwero, Kyankwanzi, Nakasongola, and Nakaseke have been sensitized and trained on how to use this technology.

The app allows field vets to easily monitor the stages of processing samples, and provides access to lab diagnostics, resulting in quick treatment of sick animals. It includes all relevant diseases, test methods, and test types to choose from. There is no paperwork required as the sample intake is convenient, and enables the instant sharing of the results with veterinarians. The app which can be downloaded free from Google play store also includes relevant articles and videos.

The labcard sensitization and training were launched on Thursday 2nd July 2020 at the UMPCU livestock resource centre in Butalangu, Nakaseke district. The function was presided over by the Union’s Board Chairman, Eng. Robert Ssenozi who was accompanied by other board members; Mrs. Jovanice Bwambata, Mr. Joram Mwebaza, and Mrs. Alice Mpairwe Mugisha. The event was also attended by UMPCU staff led by the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ezekiel Kisambira Kisirira.

The labcard training was also conducted in Ntusi, Sembabule district where UMPCU has an animal health diagnostics laboratory. The two laboratories were equipped with support from Zoetis, the largest global animal health company.
